Dito continues to beef up partners for faster rollout

Richmond Mercurio - The Philippine Star

Third telecommunications player Dito Telecommunity Corp. continues to expand its roster of partners to enable the faster rollout of its network.

Dito said it signed major deals with two rollout partners as part of its commitment to fully comply with its mandate of providing world-class telecommunications services in the country.

The agreements were signed separately with Leo Technologies Infrastructure Corp. and Alt-Global-Solutions Inc. for the provision of common towers and in-building solutions as well as rooftop tower construction services.

“For the past few months, we have been pushing hard to have on board like-minded partners who are as committed as we are in making sure that we provide world-class telecommunications services to the Filipino; and would like to assure our countrymen that yes, Dito is very well on its way to provide faster, more affordable, and secure telecom services,” Dito chief administrative officer Adel Tamano said.

Dito earlier secured agreements with the group of politician Luis Chavit Singson and ABS-CBN-unit Sky Cable Corp. to help beef up its bid to provide world-class telco services in the country.

It has also signed agreements with key contractor-partners and tower providers, namely China Energy Equipment Co. Ltd. and Filipino-Malaysian Consortium ZEAL Power Construction & Development Corp.

Dito has committed to increase basic internet speed to 55 mbps and cover 84 percent of the country’s population over a five-year period through a total of P257 billion investment.

It is a consortium composed of state-owned China Telecom and Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy’s  Udenna Corp. and Chelsea Logistics and Infrastructure Holdings Corp.

In light of the recent concerns aired by some senators on the matter of security, specifically on the memorandum of agreement  it signed with
the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Dito assured the public of secure telecommunications services and has committed to pass regular audits by the government in order to maintain their license to operate.

Dito chief technology officer Rodolfo Santiago said the agreement signed with the AFP contained the very same provisions signed by the other two telcos with the notable exception that additional provisions were
provided pertaining to commitments of Dito to national security in addition to the safeguards already put in place by the AFP.

“Dito Telecommunity has guaranteed in the recently signed MOA that its devices, equipment, and structures shall not be used to obtain classified information from the AFP,” he said.

“While we in Dito have yet to provide telecommunications services, we have set standards, controls, measures, and rigid protocols to help protect the integrity of Philippine national security especially on cybersecurity,” Santiago said.
