Manila Water unit bags OPS for Marikina City waste management facility project

MANILA, Philippines — A unit of utility company Manila Water was granted the original proponent status, or OPS, for its proposal to build and operate an integrated waste management facility to treat and process the solid waste of Marikina City.

In a disclosure to the stock exchange, Manila Water said the Marikina City government awarded the OPS to its wholly-owned subsidiary, Manila Water Total Solutions Corp., last July 22.

Manila Water Total Solutions submitted the unsolicited proposal to build and operate the facility in Marikina City through a joint venture agreement.

“The Certificate granted by the City of Marikina authorizes the commencement of detailed negotiations with respect to the terms and conditions of the project,” the Ayala-led company said.

Manila Water serves areas in the East Zone of the capital.

The east zone encompasses 23 cities and municipalities spanning a 1,400-square kilometer area that includes Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, most parts of Quezon City, portions of Manila as well as 14 towns of Rizal province. — Ian Nicolas Cigaral
