MANILA, Philippines — Andrew Tan-led property firm Megaworld Corp. has expanded its hotel footprint with the opening of a new homegrown hotel brand in Binondo, Manila.

The company opened yesterday the P750-million Hotel Lucky Chinatown, which brings to eight Megaworld’s hotel properties in its portfolio.

It earlier opened seven hotel developments under four brands that include Richmonde, Belmont, Savoy and Twin Lakes.

Hotel Lucky Chinatown, which will be directly connected to Lucky Chinatown Mall via footbridge, has 93 rooms and suites ranging from standard queen, standard twin, junior suite and executive suite.

The hotel, which is located along Reina Regente Street, has its own all-day dining restaurant, the Café de Chinatown.

The restaurant is operated by the Raintree Group of Companies, the group behind Museum Café and Terraz in Makati and Chelsea Kitchen.

Hotel Lucky Chinatown resident manager Jeremy Go said guests would be able to experience the vibe in the world’s oldest Chinatown.

“With the hotel directly connected to Manila Chinatown’s biggest mall, guests will be able to savor the distinct, dynamic vibe of the Chinatown culture as they enjoy the sights and sounds of this bustling hub,” Go said.

Hotel Lucky Chinatown is targeting travellers as it is strategically located just around 40 minutes away from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

It is also located near Manila’s historic and cultural sites such as the Intramuros, Manila City Hall and the National Museum.

Megaworld has already opened seven local homegrown hotels around the country, which include Richmonde Hotel Ortigas in Pasig City, Eastwood Richmonde Hotel in Quezon City, and Richmonde Hotel Iloilo in Iloilo City, Belmont Hotel Manila in Newport City, Savoy Hotel Manila in Newport City and Savoy Hotel Boracay in Boracay Island, Aklan and Twin Lakes Hotel in Laurel, Batangas near Tagaytay.
