Smart renews partnership with MCA Music

MANILA, Philippines - The wireless arm of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) has renewed its partnership with leading music company MCA Music Inc.  to enhance the subscribers’ digital lifestyle.

Smart Communications Inc. and MCA Music first forged their partnership two years ago by providing affordable access to music anytime and anywhere via music service Spinnr.

“Music is a big part of our ’Smart Life’ entertainment proposition, and we’re glad that MCA Music is continuing to partner with us to bring the best mobile music experience to millions of users nationwide through Spinnr,” Ariel Fermin, executive vice president and head of Consumer Business at Smart Communications, Inc. said in a statement.

Fermin said Spinnr, a pioneer in the digital music industry in the Philippines, has helped change the behavior of music fans in the country by making available affordable and legitimate access to music.

“The MCA Music - Smart partnership is a big boost to the music industry, particularly in making music downloads more affordable and accessible to everyone through Spinnr,” MCA Music chief executive officer Ricky Ilacad said.

Individuals can use Spinnr by downloading the app on any Android phone or iPhone.

Spinnr can also be accessed by using other Internet-capable gadgets such as tablets, laptops and desktops through www.spinnr.ph.

Users can log in using their Smart, Talk ‘N Text, or Sun Cellular account or their Facebook account.

Through Spinnr, users can pay for song purchases or streaming subscriptions using their prepaid loads.

The payment system has helped boost digital sales of local and international artists through music downloads and streaming subscriptions.

According to a report from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, downloads and streaming accounted for the 6.9 percent growth in digital music revenues worldwide valued at $6.9 billion in 2014 or almost half of all global music sales.
