Globe offers insurance for gadgets

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom Inc., a joint venture between diversified conglomerate Ayala Corp. and Singapore Telecommunications Inc., has partnered with global insurance provider Ace Insurance to offer protection program for mobile phones and gadgets against theft, robbery or accidental damage.

The protection program under the Globe Gadget Care is a complete mobile protection program exclusive to Globe postpaid subscribers totaling about 1.7 million.

Globe said all new and re-contracting postpaid subscribers availing of new devices under Globe My Super Plan would get Globe Gadget Care for free on the first month of subscription.

Subscribers could continue to enjoy the benefits of coverage against accidental damage, theft or robbery, and outstanding postpaid bill balance for P89 per month.

Existing postpaid subscribers on the other hand who have non-brand new devices and even those whose handsets are not Globe-issued are also eligible to avail of the mobile protection service against accidental damage for P199 monthly.

Globe Postpaid head Martha Sazon said that on the top of the mobile protection coverage,Globe Gadget Care also guarantees hassle-free handset replacement, easy claims processing, and worldwide protection coverage for all postpaid subscribers.

“At Globe, we understand how important mobile phones are nowadays. It is an essential tool to connect with people who matter most, so launching Globe Gadget Care is very timely and relevant, especially at the height of the upcoming holiday season where phone robberies are more rampant,” Sazon said

She added that with Globe Gadget Care subscribers could get the complete mobile phone protection.

“They don’t have to worry about losing their handsets due to unforeseen circumstances or accidents, giving them another superior experience just by being Globe-connected,” Sazon said.

Amid through competition, Globe’s postpaid business grew by over 20 percent in revenue and subscriber base as of end-September 2012.

Contributing 35 percent to its mobile revenue stream in the third quarter of 2012, the company’s postpaid business grew by 25 percent to P5.8 billion from P4.6 billion in the same quarter in 2011.

The number of postpaid customers jumped 22 percent, now totaling 1.66 million compared to 1.37 million last year.

This brought the total number Globe subscribers to 32.1 million as of end-September, 10 percent higher compared to 29.1 million in end-September last year.
