Globe Handyphone pioneers int'l roaming to China

Digital leader Globe Telecom has added China to the list of countries where subscribers of its Globe Handyphone cellular phone service can avail of international roaming. This recent addition of China among Globe's roaming countries makes Globe Telecom the Philippines first and only cellular phone operator to offer roaming service to this destination.

This also further increases the international roaming network of Globe Handy-phone to more than 120 GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) roaming partners around the world -- the most among cellular phone companies in the country today. In offering exclusive international roaming to China, Globe Telecom has linked its roaming network with foreign GSM operator China Mobile of China.

Areas in China where Globe Handyphone users can roam through the network of China Mobile include Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Neimenggu, Liaoning, Jilin, Hellongjiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang. Anhul, Fujian, Jiangxi, Shandong, Henan, Hubel, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Chongging, Guizhou, Yunnan, Shanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Qinghai and Xizang. China Mobile's network covers over 24 million GSM subscribers in 2,022 counties of 31 provinces, or roughly 65 percent of China's total population.

The two-way transmission of text messages between Globe Handy-phone subscribers and China Mobile GSM subscribers is also possible. Globe Handy-phone Plan subscribers who are roaming can also be able to send or receive their text messages while they are abroad.

The introduction of roaming services to China will also further add to Globe Handyphone's international roaming presence in the Asian region, as well as reinforce Globe's leadership as the country's cellular service with the widest international roaming network. In addition to China, Globe Handyphone has established international roaming presence in the following Asian countries: Azerbeljan, Brunei.
