GMA mulls counter-raps

Paolo Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo hinted yesterday that counter-charges might be filed against those who persecuted her, even as she called on Filipinos yesterday to “keep the faith in the justice system.”

She expressed gratitude to all those who supported her acquittal of plunder charges that kept her detained for over four years.

Arroyo also expressed hope that the “disregard of truth” for which she was made to suffer would be dealt with accordingly at the soonest possible time.

“First and foremost, to God Almighty be all the glory and praise. Through His kindness and mercy, justice and righteousness have once again prevailed over injustice and wrongdoing,” Arroyo said in a statement.

“It is my fervent hope that nobody else will suffer the persecution that had been levied on me through self-serving interpretation and implementation of the law,” she said.

Arroyo also thanked members of the Supreme Court “for finally stopping the persecution I had unjustly gone through the last five years.”

“My profound appreciation to His Excellency (President) Rodrigo Duterte for allowing due process to take its course,” she said.

She expressed hope that with the high tribunal rendering a final decision on her case, all concerned would respect and recognize “the truth that has been established.”
