Vasquez & Montilla: Son against father

- Danny Dolor -

Romeo Vasquez as the son and Fred Montilla as the father share stellar roles in the 1960 heavy drama Isinakdal Ko Ang Aking Ama, written by Dr. Fausto J. Galauran and serialized in Bulaklak and Alimyon.

The movie was billed, ‘The most daring exposé ever made by a son against his own father!’

Vasquez and Montilla are Best Actor awardees. Fred won the 1954 FAMAS Best Actor award for a man-child role in Bondying. Romeo is Asia’s Best Actor (1958) for the juvenile-delinquent role in Ako Ang Maysala.

Montilla was Quezon City’s long-time councilor (four terms) in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Vasquez migrated to the US in the late ‘60s but continued to appear in local movies, paired in the ‘70s with Vilma Santos.   —RKC
