BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Three residents were injured as a tornado hit 95 houses in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental Tuesday afternoon.

The tornado, which traversed 12 sitios (sub-villages) of Barangay Magballo in this southern city, lasted for about an hour, barangay captain Egan Antonio said.

A couple and their 12-year-old daughter sustained minor injuries, and were treated at a hospital, Antonio said, and that 85 houses were destroyed and 10 more were damaged.

Barangay Magballo is situated about 30 kilometers from the Kabankalan city proper.

The tornado, which came with strong winds and rains, further hit a chapel and damaged three classrooms each of the Magballo Elementary School, and the Tapi National High School-Magballo Extension. — (FREEMAN)
