Reviewing NBA games keeps Cone in tune

MANILA, Philippines — Lockdown and suspension of play won’t stop Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone from studying the game.

The two-time grand slam coach said reviewing various plays on video is a regular part of his routine while on home quarantine.

“I try to watch an NBA game a day so I can keep sharp,” Cone said in an interview on the Power and Play program on Radyo 5.

His favorite viewing included matches of Houston, Golden State and Miami.

“I watch the Houston Rockets, watch how different teams try to defend James Harden and try to use that as tool in figuring out how to guard imports down the line for us,” he said.

“I investigate teams that run a good good pick-and-roll, see how they work, what are their options, how they pick-and-pop and then I also watch different teams in terms of how they defend pick-and-rolls.

With the ban on practices, Cone said players have been given guidelines in staying fit on their own.

“Our main thrust is to keep everyone healthy and make sure they’re continuing to follow guidelines and do social distancing,” he said.
