Diaz: Thirst for more, fight for country

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA,Philippines — Weightlifting star Hidilyn Diaz is set for a 23-day “isolated training” in Taiwan as she steps up on her preparations for the coming Southeast Asian Games.

A bright gold prospect, Diaz will train with the Gushan Weightlifting Gym and will have regular trips to the Taiwan’s National Training Center to see Taiwanese 59kg division world champion Kuo Hsing-chun up close.

“Coach (Kaiwen) Gao said we need good food, good environment, good training for good performance in the SEA Games, and we can do that in Taiwan. It will really be isolation there as my routine will be eat-train-sleep, eat-train-sleep,” Diaz said during the launch of Summit Natural Drinking Water’s “Thirst for the Win” campaign yesterday.

“I also want to get more motivation and inspiration seeing Kuo train there,” added Diaz, who’s still currently five kilos short of her SEAG targets of 95kgs (snatch) and 115kgs (clean and jerk).

The Rio Olympics silver medalist and 2019 world championships bronze winner will serve as the face of Summit’s “Thirst for the Win” campaign for Pinoy bets.

“Summit believes in the hardwork and perseverance of the Filipino athlete,” said Asia Brewery Inc. CFO Enrique Martinez. “We come as one to show our support and witness the commendable talents of the national athletes as they show what the Filipino can do.”

At the same time, Martinez said the battlecry also “aims to inspire the Filipino to thirst for more and feed their pride to achieve greatness in the name of the country.”
