DLSU, Mapua, FEU, NU look to rebound in Filoil caging

MANILA, Philippines – All six seniors squads are looking to bounce back after absorbing separate losses in their last outings in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup. Unfortunately, not everyone will have that chance.

The La Salle Green Archers fell in overtime to the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons behind the latter’s Ricci Rivero, who poured in 28 points, including 17 in the last 10 minutes of the game.

DLSU battles 0-2 Mapua, which will have a full complement of players for their 5 p.m. tussle after several players were suspended for a fight during their opening day loss to CEU.

The Adamson Falcons, who were piped in the dying seconds in their previous match with Lyceum. Up by six, 79-73 with 1:33 left in the game, LPU turned to Mike Nzeusseu and JC and JV Marcelino. The latter scored the game-winning lay-up over two Soaring Falcons for an 82-81 win.

Adamson takes on College of St. Benilde — which lost in their summer tourney debut also to LPU, 70-57 — in the 3:15 p.m. match.

Far Eastern University and National University clash at the 1:30 p.m. slot. FEU lost to Letran, 75-70, in the tourney opener while NU took in on the chin also from the Knights, 76-69.

In the two juniors matches, FEU battles Perpetual Help at 10 a.m. while the Ateneo Blue Eaglets face a tough Lyceum squad, who they recently faced in the NBTC National Finals.

FEU defeated La Salle Greenhills, 83-76, while Perpetual Help emerged 74-67 winners over JRU in their opening assignments of the high school division.

Ateneo opened its post-Kai Sotto-era with a resounding 74-71 win over Adamson behind the heroics of Forthsky Padrigao, who scored the Blue Eaglets’ last five points, including the triple that won the game for them with 11 seconds left.

Tuesday’s action begins in the 11-Under division with a San Beda-LSGH encounter at 8 a.m. followed by an exciting match between a pair of undefeated squads in Colegio de San Benildo and Xavier School at 9 a.m.

The Hanes One-On-One King of the Hardcourt returns with defending champion Prince Carlos of College of St. Benilde battling EAC’s JP Maguliano at the halftime of the DLSU-Mapua game.

Arellano’s Justina Arana takes on UP’s Joe Gomez De Liaño during the mid-game break between the FEU-Perpetual Juniors match. LPU’s Yancy Remulla and JRU’s Jarvy Ramos face off during the halftime break of the Ateneo-LPU Juniors game. And FEU’s Cade Flores matches skills with CEU’s John Lisbo during the half of the Adamson-CSB game.
