Lady Red Spikers deny Chiefs NCAA elims sweep
MANILA, Philippines — San Beda denied defending champion Arellano University a sweep and an outright finals berth with a heart-stopping 16-25, 25-17, 25-19, 18-25, 16-14 victory yesterday in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan City.
The Lady Red Spikers forged a three-way logjam on top alongside the Lady Chiefs and the St. Benilde Lady Blazers on identical 8-1 (win-loss) records.
But CSB ended up with the highest tiebreak score to claim the top seed while AU fell to No. 2 and San Beda No. 3.
