No weight issues for Pacquiao
MANILA, Philippines — Manny Pacquiao moved his camp from Manila to General Santos City with very little left to lose in terms of excess pounds.
His strength coach, Justin Fortune, has assured that weight, as usual, won’t be a problem for Pacquiao.
“There’s never a problem with his weight,” Fortune told The STAR.
Pacquiao, he said, was at 153 to 154 pounds with 35 days to the awaited title clash with Adrien Broner in Las Vegas.
“He’s at 153 and eats all the time. He has a crazy metabolism and I wish I had it,” said the former heavyweight contender.
Pacquiao will defend his WBA welterweight crown against Broner at the MGM Grand. The limit is at 147 pounds.
As a welterweight, the eight-division champion has never had trouble making weight. He normally tips the scales under 145.
“He’ll make weight easy. I don’t think he’s ever weighed 47. It’s always 46 or 45,” said Fortune.
Pacquiao has resumed sparring in General Santos City after weeks of training in Manila on top of playing basketball.
Fortune said Pacquiao will have no problem making weight for this fight that he can tip the scales with a Big Mac in his hand.
“Just to psych the opponent, and say, ‘Hey you want something?” said Fortune.
