Thumbs down on Floyd bout with McGregor

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Top executives of the Universal Fighting Challenge and the Floyd Mayweather camp openly ruled out any possibility of UFC champion Conor McGregor facing  Mayweather in a straight boxing match even as the former had obtained a boxing license from the state of California.

UFC president Dana White was quoted as saying in boxing.com that McGregor has a live contract with UFC, which demands that it be part of any negotiations that have to do with any boxing match.

McGregor received the license on Wednesday and attempted to obtain a license from Nevada, but his application was denied due to numerous issues with the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

At  the same time Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe also brushed off the idea of a Mayweather-McGregor match  even as Mayweather himself has fueled speculations after saying he was open to the idea to face McGregor in a boxing match.

“He got a boxing license. Congratulations to him. Conor McGregor can say anything he wants to, but he has a boss, and his name is Dana White. He is under contract to the UFC, and if he wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match he can’t because his bosses wouldn’t allow that to happen,” Ellerbe was quoted saying.

“They would never – and put this in bold caps – let him step into a boxing ring with Floyd Mayweather, because everyone knows what the outcome would be,” he added.
