La Salle’s Montalbo earns UAAP weekly player citation

MANILA, Philippines – For the third straight week, a La Sallian has won the ACCEL Quantum/3XVI-UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week award.

Comebacking Kib Montalbo was chosen among fellow teammate Ben Mbala, FEU's Mon Arong and Ateneo's Anton Asistio to win the weekly citation.

Montalbo had 12 points, eight boards, six assists and three steals when the Green Archers thrashed the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 91-75 on Saturday.

"I'm really happy that I'm back on the floor, especially sa system ni coach. I really like that pace, 'yung magulo." Montalbo said.

Montalbo was one of the blue-chip recruits of La Salle in 2013. Last year, he tore his ACL in an offseason tournament, which made him miss the entire UAAP 78. He said his injury was a "blessing in disguise."

Head coach Aldin Ayo, for his part, is happy that Montalbo is adjusting very well with his system.

"Si Kib naman, steady. He just goes with the flow and executes on offense," said Ayo.

The Green Archers hold an unblemished 5-0 record and will next face the still winless University of the East on at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Wednesday.
