CEU, PWU seal WNCAA title duel

MANILA, Philippines - Centro Escolar University blasted San Beda, 55-25, while Philippine Women’s University edged Rizal Technological University, 57-55, at the Chiang Kai Shek College gym to arrange a showdown for the WNCAA basketball crown.

CEU also advanced to the senior volley finals as it swept PWU, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23, to set a clash with San Beda, which downed RTU, 25-22, 25-17, 25-13, in the other semifinal match.

The best-of-three series starts Nov. 9 when the league resumes play after the semestral break.

De La Salle Zobel and Chiang Kai Shek College, meanwhile, took the opener of their respective finals series in junior play with the former topping St. Stephen’s High School, 35-24, and the latter upending defending champion Miriam College, 58-54, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum last Sunday.

San Beda will also vie for a second volley crown after its defending champion midgets squad arranged a clash with DLSZ.  

DLSZ also fights for a second title when it clashes with St. Scholastica’s College in the juniors finals.

Meanwhile, RTU bagged its fourth straight senior futsal title, beating host University of Asia and the Pacific. Assumption College finished third in the tournament backed by Cafe Lupe Antipolo, OneA Family KTV and Sports Bar, Jeunesse, Molten, Mikasa, Goody, MJP Printing Press, Monster Radio RX 93.1, Alpha Insurance and Surety Co. and School Bus.

In juniors play, it will be DLSZ against Miriam for the championship. DLSZ, the 43rd season champion, bested St. Paul College Pasig, 7-1, while Miriam stunned defending champion San Beda, 3-1, in the semis.
