Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Little League Philippines Series 2013 blasts off April 1-9 in Tanauan City with 96 teams from 35 charters slugging it out for baseball and softball glory.

ILLAM, the defending titlists in the Little League Baseball, Junior League Baseball, and Little League Softball divisions, and Manila South, the reigning Big League Softball world champion, topbill the competitors in the event that stakes berths to the Asia Pacific Regional Tournament that Clark is hosting in June.

Big League Baseball holder Muntinlupa is also expected to figure prominently along with host Tanauan, Marikina, and provincial contingents North Cebu and Northern Samar.

“We expect the competition to be high. The teams have leveled up and we foresee that games will be tightly fought and decided in seven innings,” said Little League Philippines assistant district administrator Chito Gonzalez.

He said this had been primarily due to the high interest in the sport even in the provinces and also to recent clinics conducted by US-trained coaches that had helped provincial mentors gain new knowledge and improve their teams.

The Little League Philippine Series 2013 gets under way on Easter Sunday with action in baseball commencing at 7 a.m. and the traditional parade of teams and opening ceremonies at 5 p.m.Four Canlubang teams will also see action.
