La Salle, Ateneo teams pace ICTSI Inter-school golf

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo pulled ahead by 11 in the Midgets 1 event at Capitol Hills while De La Salle U took an eight-point lead in seniors play at Intramuros at resumption of the ICTSI-JGFP Inter-school golf tournament recently.

Cousins Aidric Chan and Carl Jano Baldonado-Corpus combined for 104 points as Ateneo chalked up 152 to fend off the balanced scoring of a Xavier side (141) and assume leadership in the division for kids in Grades 5-7.

Chan made 53 while Corpus tallied 51 to lead the assault for Ateneo which had Marc Elson Corrales as its third scorer with his 48. Matthew Dy-Buncio (48), Kendrick Diaz (47) and Enrique Diaz (46) produced the points for Xavier at the up and down Capitol Hills executive layout.

Ateneo 2 was in third spot at 110, La Salle Zobel fourth at 107 and La Salle Greenhills fifth at 104 in the division that drew the most number of entries in the series backed by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. as major backer and Pancake House Group and Philippine Airlines as other sponsors.

Over at the short but hazard-laden Intramuros layout, Marvin Mendoza (48) , Eric Gallardo (47) and Allan Bumagat (44) pooled 139 to push La Salle-Taft to a slim eight-point lead over Ateneo.

Rocco Sumabat and Moshe Baldo each had 44 while Mikey Punsalan added 43 for the Ateneo cause.

Tomorrow, Midgets 2 action resumes at Intramuros and Girls 2 at Valley.
