-

MANILA, Philippines - The Mayor Freddie Tinga Cup National Invitational Amateur Boxing Championships starts today at 2 p.m. at the air-conditioned Don Ambrosio Gym of the Cantada Sports Center in Bagumbayan, Taguig City.

Presented by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and organized by the Joe Cantada Sports in coordination with the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines, the three-day event has drawn the best and promising boxers from various parts of the country who all share the dream of bringing home the country’s first Olympic gold. Admission is free.

Expected to grace the event are top Taguig City officials headed by Mayor Freddie Tinga, Vice Mayor George Elias and city administrator Wilfredo Villar.

“We, in Joe Cantada Sports, have been providing regular amateur boxing tournaments, for the past years, as our small contribution to the development of the sport and, perhaps, in the country’s quest for the first Olympic gold medal which could very well, come from amateur boxing,” said Edgardo “Boy” Cantada of the Joe Cantada Sports.

Fighters from the stables of sportsman Tony Aldeguer, Misamis Oriental Gov. Oscar Moreno, Puerto Princesa Mayor Edward Hagedorn, Bacolod’s Munjo Guanzon, Tagbilaran Mayor Dan Neri Lim, North Cotabato Vice Gov. Manny Pinol and Taguig will see action.
