Clark motorshow to feature races, exhibits

One of the country’s biggest motorsports festival will be held at the Clark Special Economic Zone (CSEZ) in Pampanga starting today until Sunday.

The four-day first Philippine Motorsports Festival will have the theme "Freedom behind the Wheels," and will have an array of activities to include bike enduro and drag races as well as exhibits of the latest car models, vintage cars and motorcycles.

Ditas Gutierrez, project coordinator, said the star-studded motorsports festival is a joint undertaking of Norkis Yamaha, Pilipinas Shell and San Miguel Corp. (SMC) and participated in by screen celebrities, two-wheeled medalists and SMC players.

The festival will be ushered in by a "Bike Run" led by Cil. Fernando Pace, president, Luzon Motorcyclists Federation, Inc., (LMFI). Assembly time is at 5 a.m. tomorrow at the Quezon City Memorial Circle be covered live by ABS-CBN "Magandang Umaga Bayan" program.

The bike enduro cross and drag races will be held from May 22-29.

Cash prizes and trophies await winners in the search for the "Best Car Display" (brand new and vintage), "Best Motorcycle Display" (brand new and vintage), "Best Big Bike" display; "Best in Paint," Best in Color," "Best in Engine," and "Best in Accessories."

Gutierrez said the proceeds of the project will go to the indigent communities in Barangay Bugas, Pampanga, Borongan, Samar; and the Aetas in Pampanga and Mt. Pinatubo.

Participants may register starting today at the secretariat or with Ernie Leongson, director of the technical committee at 6602071/927-1420.
