Maritoni, 20 years nang cancer survivor

Dahil Breast Cancer Awareness Month ang buwan ng October, muling pinapaalalahanan ng aktres na si Maritoni Fernandez ang maraming kababaihan na magkaroon ng regular checkup in case may early detection ng breast cancer.

Year 2001 nang ma-diagnose si Maritoni with breast cancer. Sinamahan lang daw niya ang kanyang ina na magpa-check up sa isang ospital sa Amerika at naisipan na rin niyang magpatingin na rin. ‘Yung inakala niyang benign na lump sa kanyang breast ay nag-positive for cancer.

Binago raw ng insidenteng iyon ang buhay ni Maritoni kaya every year, she sees to it na nagpapa-check up. Sa ngayon ay 20 years nang cancer-free si Maritoni.

Heto ang pinost niya sa Instagram: “Today I had my mammogram, sonogram and tomography done. I am a 20 year survivor and you’d think I’m used to the drill by now but every check up still brings with it a flood of emotions.

“From being anxious heading to the hospital, specially now that it’s in the midst of a pandemic, to being grateful and relieved when given the two thumbs up by my dear friend and doctor Dra. Barbara Perez of St. Luke’s breast center.

“Today I didn’t have my @leximalvarez1 to go with me as she is far away studying, but the Lord Jesus blessed me with a wonderful husband who drove me, kept me company and patiently waited while I had all my tests done.

“October is breast cancer awareness month so go get yourself checked. I know it’s Covid and all but don’t delay your check ups. Set an appointment and go get it done. You can safely go as long as you prepare properly.
Nothing matters more than your own peace of mind. Remember always that early detection is key to surviving Breast Cancer.”

Miss U-PH ayaw papigil

Walang makakapigil sa pag-stage ng Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Pageant at ayon sa national director ng MUP na si Shamcey Supsup-Lee, isang new experience raw ang hatid ng pageant sa new normal setting.

“It will definitely be a pageant to remember. We remain firmly committed to sending the newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines. Now more than ever, we realize the importance of using this platform to promote beauty with a purpose and make a positive impact,” diin ni Shamcey.

Ang hanap daw nilang winner ay “active, aware, conscious and socially responsible.” Kailangan daw maging inspirasyon ito sa ibang kababaihan “to find their own inner beauty queen by striving to make a difference in any way they can.”

Bilang pagsunod sa health and safety protocol, sa magaganap na MUP pageant, wala itong live audience at iilan lang ang production people sa venue.

Dagdag pa ni Shamcey, “The delegates will strictly practice social distancing on and off the stage. It also enumerated several other health and safety measures for both the preliminary competitions and the final ceremonies.”

Legendary rock star, namatay sa throat cancer

Pumanaw na ang co-founder ng bandang Van Halen na si Eddie Van Halen sa edad na 65.

Nakipaglaban ang legendary rock star sa sakit na throat cancer ng ilang taon ayon sa kanyang anak na si Wolf. “My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop,” tweet ni Wolf.

Nasa tabi ni Van Halen sa ospital ang kanyang present wife na si Janie Liszewski at ex-wife na si Valerie Bertanelli bago siya tuluyang mamaalam.

Noong 2002, na-survive ni Van Halen ang sakit na tongue cancer. Noong 2010, bumalik ang cancer pero sa lalamunan na ito lumipat.

Ang bandang Van Halen ay nabuo noong 1972 sa Pasadena, California. Nakapag-release sila ng 12 studio albums. Sumikat ang mga rock singles nila na Runnin’ with the Devil, Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love, You Really Got Me, Jump, Hot for Teacher and Panama.

Van Halen became one of the top 20 best-selling artists of all time and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
