Manila will impose a night-time curfew in the city of 12 million, officials said on March 14, as the Philippines steps up efforts to curb the spread of the new coronavirus. The measure takes effect on March 15 along with the president's order to seal off the capital from the rest of the country which has recorded 111 virus cases, including eight deaths.

"The lifting of curfew hours in Metro Manila will help spread out influx of people coming to and from malls to further reduce the risk of virus’ transmission," ani Abalos, Miyerkules.

"The Metro Manila mayors have agreed to lift the curfew hours in the metropolis," dagdag pa ni Abalos sa pahayag.

"But we will respect the implementation of curfew on minors based on existing ordinances of the respective [local government units]."
