Musical comedy wins Famas advocacy award

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - “Filemon Mamon,” a movie that portrays and combines health and nutrition with a true sense of heroism – the kind of heroism that Andres Bonifacio embodies – in a musical comedy genre, won the 2014 FAMAS award for Best Advocacy Film.

Donna Sanchez, a businesswoman turned executive producer, received the award at the FAMAS awards night recently.

The movie, directed by Will Fredo, combines music and comedy and is based on a popular book  by Christine Bellen, published by Adarna Publishing.

“Payat lang ba ang pwede maging bida  (Is it only thin people who can be heroes)?” is the question posed by this hilarious movie that stars Nanette Inventor, Smokey Manaloto, Gizelle Sanchez and Rayver Cruz, and introduces Jerome Ignacio as Filemon. It is also the debut movie of Brian Poe, son of Sen. Grace Poe.

The heart-warming theme song by Maynard de Guzman, “Liwanag ng Iyong Halaga,” is sung by Christian Bautista, who plays Andres Bonifacio.

This is the third FAMAS Advocacy award for Sanchez. “HIV (Si Heidi, si Ivy, at si V)” and “Larong Bata” won the award in 2010 and 2013, respectively.
