Tsukiji sources fresh ingredients from all over the world

-

MANILA, Philippines - I was just informed by one of my favorite Japanese restaurants that, despite the radiation scare in Japan, I will still have my steady supply of sushi, sashimi and Wagyu beef. Chef J. Gamboa of Tsukiji restaurant has assured me that the restaurant is sourcing from all over the world the “best of the best” to continue Tsukiji’s top quality standards. The restaurant carries a large amount of dry (rice, seaweed, sauces, etc.) and frozen (meats, seafood) goods that are warehoused and procured before the current and unfortunate situation in Japan.

According to J, fresh items are sourced from all over the world: US Snake River Farms Wagyu beef and Kurobota pork, Norwegian and Tasmanian salmon, Mediterranean toro bluefin tuna, US Westcoast (uni) sea urchin, Alaskan king crabs, US black cod (gindara), New Zealand Hiramasa (hamachi), Fin de Claire oyster (from France), Canadian scallops, Greenland spot prawns (amaebi) and tuna from General Santos City. For vegetables, they rely on local farmers to grow specialty ingredients like kaiware radish sprouts, edamame beans and shiitake, honshimeji and enoki mushrooms are sourced from Malaysia.

There have been rumors that Tsukiji was closed or did not have enough supply of Japanese products  these are totally not true. I’m looking forward to more of my delicious food at Tsukiji!

(Tsukiji is located on the third floor of Milky Way Building, 900 A. Arnaiz Ave. corner Paseo de Roxas, Makati and is open daily for lunch and dinner with tatami rooms, yakiniku and teppanyaki tables, private function rooms for groups of four to 30, smoking and non-smoking seating available. Call 843-4285 or 812-2913. Check out www.tsukiji-restaurant.com)
