MANILA, Philippines — Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat on Thursday said her agency would personally visit Samar to assess the tourism opportunity for Balangiga bells.

“The bells will actually be one of those that people would want to go to so I want to visit January and we'll see what we can do,” Puyat told the reporters.

Puyat cited that there are already tour guides set for the Balangiga bells.

The church bells, taken by American soldiers from Balangiga in Eastern Samar in 1901, arrived at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay on Tuesday after 117 years.

The historic bells were displayed for public viewing from Wednesday to Thursday at the Philippine Air Force Aerospace Museum also at the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.

On Friday morning, the Balangiga bells arrived in Guiuan Airport, Guiuan, Eastern Samar and is now being transported to the parish in Balangiga, Eastern Samar.
