Daang Matuwid doesn't know what delicadeza is

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Freeman

There is no doubt that there is a massive, albeit quiet damage control campaign being waged by Malacañang Palace sycophants, targeting their friends in media to sow confusion to the public and we saw it last Saturday when no less than His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal read (they insist that Cardinal Vidal was "forced" to read that statement… making him look stupid when he knows the issues vs. PNoy very well) the official statement of the National Transformation Council in a press conference done in the Cardinal's residence.

I gathered that before the presscon, there was a mass officiated by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma together with Davao Archbishop Emeritus Fernando Capalla, Archbishop of Lipa Ramon Arguelles, Zamboanga Archbishop Romulo dela Crus with Pastors from the United Church of Christ and former Sen. Kit Tatad and former Defense Sec. Norberto Gonzales. Funny, but the following day… the media pressed upon Cardinal Vidal whether he really asked the Aquino government to resign… and the Cardinal merely reiterated the call by the NTC, which he chairs.

But then Palace sycophants are in panic mode simply because it is not only the NTC calling for the Aquino Regime to step down, but various sectors in civil society are making this call… including the above ground leftist organizations allied with the Communist Party of the Philippines. With an unforgivable carnage that happened to the 44 soldiers of the Special Action Force  happening under the watch of Pres. Aquino, if he truly had "delicadeza," he should have resigned in sadness for the deaths of his SAF soldiers. But alas, Daang Matuwid doesn't know what Delicadeza is.

But I don't think Pres. Aquino has the courage to resign for all his misdeeds… from the Hong Kong hostage debacle, our troubles with China, impeachment of Supreme Chief Justice Renato Corona, where he used the pork barrel to bribe senators into convicting him. Then there's the misuse of the Disbursement Acceleration Program   and the Priority Development Assistance Fund under his watch, anyone of which a decent leader would have resigned in shame. Now this President has the blood of the 44 slain SAF soldiers in his hands.

Let me bring you back to memory lane to February 1986 at the time when Pres. Ferdinand Marcos was dictator of this nation and held the military and police in his hands. Yet after the failed snap elections in February, even the police and military went with Cardinal Sin and civic society and, yes, installed Cory Aquino to power. Little did we know that Cory Aquino was backed by the power hungry politicians of that time.

Fast forward to Jan.19, 2001 where the 13th President, Joseph "Erap" Estrada left Malacañang Palace via the Pasig River to avoid a restless and angry crowd banging on the gates of the Palace. Erap resigned to save his neck. Yet the military wasn't disgruntled with Erap. But when the senator/judges refused to open that damning envelope… the crowd called for EDSA II with Cardinal Sin and civic society and then AFP Chief Angelo Reyes withdrew his support for Pres. Erap and history was made.

What about today? Last week when Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago asked Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin if the rumors of a coup financed by a rich man was true, Sec. Gazmin said, "Your honor, we indeed received reports and we are in the process of verifying and confirming these. As far as a coup is concerned, it will entail no military support."

Well, to add to those rumors, former coup plotter of the Oakwood kind and now Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has tagged my good friend, former Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzalez as the coup plotter planning to overthrow the Aquino Regime. Again let me point out to the column that I wrote on Oct.2, 2014 when the National Transformation Council issued the Cebu Declaration asking Pres. Aquino and his government to resign because of the misuse of the DAP and the PDAF which the Supreme Court declared as unconstitutional. Bert Gonzalez is part of NTC. So is asking the President to step down considered a coup?

The problem with Sen. Trillanes, his being a true-bloodied yellow supporter reveals his stupidity. When he tagged Bert Gonzalez as a coup plotter, on the same statement he said that Gonzalez didn't have any influence with the military. So isn't this an obvious contradiction?

Well I saw Bert Gonzalez in yesterday's Umaga Kay Ganda with Anthony Taberna on ABS-CBN and in Head Start with Karen Davila on ANC and it is obvious that he is not supporting a coup, but perhaps another EDSA so we can get our people from the bondage of the political elite that has been in control of this country for 29 years now. What we need today is a change in the system of governance, where monies from the nation's coffers would be given to the folks who need it the most… and not stolen by politicians!
