NCRPO steps up drive vs POGO, online scams

MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has tightened intelligence operations to prevent the return of Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hubs and online scams in Metro Manila.
NCRPO officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano directed district directors, chiefs of police and unit commanders to identify and verify establishments that may be used as “guerrilla-style” hubs for illegal online gambling, cyber fraud and other online-enabled crimes.
“We will not wait for these criminal groups to become established before we act,” Abrahano said.
He ordered police units to coordinate with the Anti-Cybercrime Group, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and other law enforcement agencies for action against validated threats.
The NCRPO will also monitor online fraud schemes, including love scams that use fake identities or online relationships to deceive victims and obtain money.
Abrahano urged business owners and community leaders to report suspicious activities linked to illegal online gambling and cyber fraud.
“Public safety does not stop in the streets of Metro Manila. It extends to the digital space. We will remain vigilant in both,” he said.
