PNP assists probe into Angeles City building collapse

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police said Monday, May 25, that it is assisting in the investigation of a building collapse in Angeles City, Pampanga, to determine what caused the disaster and identify possible safety and building code violations.
In a statement, the PNP said it is coordinating with local authorities and emergency response units following the collapse of a hotel construction site in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City.
“The PNP is likewise supporting the ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the incident and possible violations of safety and building regulations,” the PNP said.
“The public is advised to avoid the area to allow unhampered emergency operations. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available,” it added.
Deployed. The PNP said Police Regional Office 3 personnel were immediately deployed following the incident.
The building collapsed early Sunday morning, May 24. Three people have so far been pulled out and declared dead from the rubble of the building, which was still under construction.
Around 18 people remain trapped, most of them believed to be workers.
Meanwhile, 26 people were rescued on Sunday, including two individuals from an apartelle that was hit by the collapse.
