LTO suspends license of driver in ‘gas-and-run’ incident

MANILA, Philippines — The license of the driver involved in a “gas-and-run” incident at a gasoline station in Quezon City has been suspended, the Land Transportation Office said.

In a statement, the LTO said the driver’s license was suspended for 90 days, with an order for the driver to immediately submit it to the Intelligence and Investigation Division.

Based on a letter received by the LTO, the incident occurred on May 3 at 3:16 a.m. at the UniOil gasoline station along Mindanao Avenue in Barangay Bahay Toro.

“The office will not tolerate irresponsible actions of motorists that cause inconvenience to other people. This type of incident should serve as a reminder to all that motorists involved in any irresponsible and undisciplined behavior are held accountable,” LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said.

The registered vehicle owner and the driver were both ordered to appear for a hearing on May 13 and explain why they should not be held accountable for the administrative case.

According to the LTO, the vehicle in the “gas-and-run” incident has been placed under alarm status.
