Bong Go spends birthday with fisherfolk in Davao

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go celebrated his birthday last Saturday eating in a military-styled boodle fight with fishermen in Davao del Norte and reaffirming his commitment to serve the grassroots sector, especially those who work to help attain food security.
In a gathering by the sea, Go shared with the fisherfolk a meal that include fishes he bought to support their livelihood.
“I will celebrate my birthday with you because I really don’t do parties. Former president Duterte also don’t party. He serves food at the Smokey Mountain or to cancer patients during his birthdays. I chose to be with fishermen and their families,” Go said.
While spending time with the fisherfolk, Go discussed with them key legislative measures aimed at improving the lives of fishermen and rural communities.
Go is one of the authors of Republic Act 11901, or the Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development Financing Enhancement Act of 2022, which strengthened the financial ecosystem supporting agriculture, fisheries and rural development.
The senator emphasized the importance of the role of farmers and fisherfolk in providing food to Filipino households, reiterated his advocacy that no Filipino should go to bed hungry and vowed to continue supporting initiatives that uplift the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
Go, known as Mr. Malasakit, has been known for championing grassroots initiatives and pro-poor legislation. His birthday celebration became a meaningful reflection of his values – one that is centered on humility, service and a deep gratitude for the hardworking Filipinos who nourish the nation.
