Taguig top cop probed over warrantless search

MANILA, Philippines — Taguig police chief Col. Joey Goforth will be investigated following a warrantless search, which led to the relief of 10 police personnel.
Based on video footage that went viral on social media, personnel of the Taguig police sub-station 5 in Barangay Tipas entered a house without a valid search warrant.
Ten police officers, including the sub-station 5 commander, are facing complaints for robbery, grave coercion, physical injury, obstruction of justice, malicious mischief, unlawful arrest as well as violations of domicile and the special protection against child abuse.
The remaining personnel of police sub-station 5 will be probed and reassigned to other posts, Metro Manila police director Gen. Anthony Aberin told dzBB yesterday.
“I ordered the investigation so that victims of unreported violent incidents can come forward. No one was complaining before, which is why these officers felt emboldened to act inappropriately,” Aberin said.
