Npa arms cache seized in Batangas

MANILA, Philippines —  Bombs, grenades and other war materials have been recovered from New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Balayan, Batangas.

Capt. Renrick Cumaya, public affairs office chief of the 2nd Infantry Division (ID), said among the items seized were two six-kilogram improvised landmines, 10 improvised hand grenades, 105 cartridges of 5.56 mm, two improvised explosive device openers, an IED canister and a bandolier.

Cumaya said a former NPA leader who surrendered led them to the arms cache in Sitio Sales in Barangay Pooc.

In a statement, Maj. Gen. Roberto Capulong, 2nd ID commander, said collaboration between government troopers and surrenderees is essential in dismantling rebel forces and ensuring the safety and security of local communities.

Meanwhile, reports reaching Bulacan police director Col. Relly Arnedo said an alias She of the Rebolusyonaryong Hukbong Bayan surrendered on Tuesday.

The surrenderee reportedly turned over a 12-gauge shotgun, a caliber. 38 revolver and bullets.
