Binga Dam releases water

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Binga Dam in Itogon, Benguet released water at its reservoir yesterday, the National Power Corp. (Napocor)-Binga Dam office said.

Gate number 4 was opened after the dam’s water level reached 569.12 meters, less than six meters from its normal high level of 575 meters.

The Napocor-Binga office said the dam’s water level is seen to further increase due to rains spawned by Super Typhoon Egay.

Authorities advised residents, particularly of downstream Barangays Dalupirip and Tingdan, to exercise extreme caution with the release of water from the dam.

As of yesterday, the northern portions of Benguet experienced moderate to heavy rain because of Egay.
