Kin of 4 Taiwan OFWs to get P5.4 million

MANILA, Philippines — The families of four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who died in a fire that gutted a factory in Taiwan on April 25 stand to get additional cash aid amounting to NT$3 million or P5.44 million each.

In a statement, former Pilipino Manpower Agencies Accredited to Taiwan (PILMAT) president Jackson Gan said the cash assistance will come from Taiwan’s employers’ group insurance and the OFWs’ employer, Lien Hwa Food Factory Corp.

Gan said that each OFW’s family will get NT$1 million from the company while the employer’s group is preparing NT$3 million.

The OFWs were identified as Renato Larua from Cavite, Nancy Revilla from Marinduque, Aroma Miranda from Tarlac and Maricris Fernando from La Union.

Three of them were deployed by PILMAT while the other worker was dispatched by another local agency.

Aside from this, the workers will also receive burial and death benefits from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration amounting to P22,000 and the mandatory insurance provided by the recruitment agency worth $15,000.
