Rookie cop killed in ‘accidental firing’

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A neophyte police officer died in what appeared to be a case of accidental firing in this city on Sunday.

Pat. Val Liansing, 24, of the Negros Occidental police, was found bloodied in the toilet of his house in Barangay Mansilingan, according to Capt. Elmer Bonilla, commander of the city police Station 7.

Bonilla said Liansing might have been cleaning his firearm, but it went off.

Liansing died from a gunshot wound in the jaw, probers said.

A pistol was found at the scene of the incident.
