No more free MRT rides

MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) ended yesterday its “libreng sakay” or free ride program.

Commuters anticipated another announcement by the rail management to extend the free train rides, but to no avail.

MRT-3 general manager Michael Capati said the decision on whether to extend the free rides would be left to the administration of President Marcos.

The Department of Transportation implemented the free MRT-3 rides from March 28 to June 30.

Over 23 million passengers benefited from the program.
