P2.2 million marijuana destroyed in Sultan Kudarat town

COLUMBIO, Sultan Kudarat, Philippines — Authorities uprooted and burned 11,000 marijuana plants in Columbio, Sultan Kudarat yesterday.

Naravy Duquiatan, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Soocsksargen director, said the marijuana plants worth P2.2 million were discovered in an upland area in Sitio Asmakul-Basag in Barangay Sinapulan.

Authorities conducted a raid after residents reported the presence of the plantation.

The alleged cultivator and his cohort managed to escape.

In Negros Occidental, two marijuana plantations were discovered in Purok Manguim in Barangay Codcod in San Carlos City on Monday.

About 500 fully grown marijuana plants weighing 10 kilos were uprooted by personnel of the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and Intelligence Division, Regional Mobile Force Battalion, local police and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Anti-Illegal Drugs unit.

Lt. Col. Arnel Solis, Western Visayas police spokesperson, said the raiders walked for six hours to reach the plantation.
