Ric Sapnu, Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — Five suspected gunrunners were killed in an alleged shootout with policemen in Barangay Nueva Victoria in Mexico, Pampanga on Friday.

Col. Arnold Ibay, Pampanga police director, said two of the fatalities were identified as Mark Lester Lopez, a resident of Laoag, Ilocos Norte, and Marvin Cunanan of Magalang, Pampanga.

Ibay said personnel of the Pampanga and Mexico police conducted a sting, which targeted Lopez, in Barangay Nueva Victoria at about 6:45 p.m.

The suspects reportedly drew their guns when they had sensed that the buyer was an undercover agent.

Police said two 9mm submachine guns, a 9mm hand gun, a homemade caliber .45 pistol, a bolt cutter, several ammunition and a crew bar were recovered from the fatalities.

Authorities also seized the Mitsubishi Xpander used by the suspects.
