TARLAC CITY, Philippines — Maj. Gen. Marcelo Burgos Jr. is the new head of the Northern Luzon Command.

Burgos took over the helm from Lt. Gen. Manuel Rey, who retired from the service, during ceremonies held at Camp Servillano Aquino in this city on Monday.

Burgos, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1988, was former commander of the 2nd Infantry Division.

He was cited for pushing communist insurgency in Southern Tagalog ”on the verge of irrecoverable defeat.”

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy is the new commander of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division (ID) based at Camp Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon turned over the post to Uy in ceremonies led by Army chief Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana on Monday.

In his speech, Sobejana noted that the 6th ID during Carreon’s stint neutralized 630 enemies, seized 415 firearms and 84 anti-personnel mines and confiscated 308 loose firearms aside from being ranked first among the Army’s major units.

On the other hand, he said Uy’s experience as former deputy commander of the 6th ID would be valuable in sustaining the initiatives of his predecessor.
