DAVAO CITY, Philippines  – Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has placed Barangay 23-C on lockdown due to rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 infections.

The lockdown started on Saturday afternoon and will be implemented for 14 days. It is intended to curb the spread of the virus, which has infected 88 people and killed two in the area.

The lockdown was ordered even as the city has been placed under modified community quarantine.

While on lockdown, residents are not allowed to enter or exit the village.

The city social welfare and development office will distribute daily food rations.

Carpio described the situation in the village as “severe and very critical.”
