Kidnapped Chinese woman returns home

Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Chinese woman who was reported to have been kidnapped in Makati last week returned home on Sunday, according to police.

Zhou Mei, 28, said to be an employee of a Philippine offshore gaming operator, was released by her supposed kidnappers, city police chief investigator Maj. Gideon Ines Jr. said.

“This was confirmed by her husband, Chen Tangbin, in a text message,” Ines said.

Zhou was seen in a video being dragged by Chinese-looking men into a Chrysler van at the corner of Paseo de Roxas and Nieva streets on Dec. 9.

Police said Zhou would no longer press charges against the suspects.
