Mayor survives ambush; 3 hurt
LANAO DEL SUR, Philippines — Three companions of a municipal mayor, one of them a police officer, were wounded in an ambush in Buadipuso Buntong town in this province yesterday.
Mayor Nasser Pangandaman Jr. of Masiu town survived the attack unscathed.
The group was traveling in Barangay Gata when gunmen, positioned on one side of the road, opened fire at them, according to Col. Madzgani Mukaram, chief of the provincial police.
Pangandaman’s companions S/Sgt. Jabbar Romato Pangandaman, Jamal Gabriel Pangandaman and Casanoding Mangandog suffered bullet wounds in the abdomen, knee and buttocks, respectively.
Personnel of the provincial police’s Mobile Force Company and soldiers from the Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion pursued the gunmen who fled shortly after the attack.
