‘Maymay’ leaves Philippines; monsoon rains to persist
MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Maymay (international name Jebi) left the Philippine area of responsibility yesterday after enhancing the southwest monsoon, which dumped rains over most parts of Luzon.
Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Bicol will continue to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains until today due to the southwest monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
The southwest monsoon will continue to bring rains in Bicol until tomorrow and over the Visayas until Thursday.
PAGASA said the weather is expected to improve in Metro Manila tomorrow while good weather with isolated rains due to thunderstorms would prevail over Northern Luzon and Mindanao until Thursday.
As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the eye of Maymay was located 1,330 northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, packing winds of 160 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 195 kph.
It was forecast to move north-northwest at a speed of 20 kph.
Flights cancelled
Philippine Airlines cancelled several flights to Osaka and Nagoya in Japan yesterday and today due to inclement weather.
PAL said it would inform passengers of their new flight schedules via email or text.
