Gunman in Ilocos columnist’s slay charged

LAOAG CITY, Philippines  – Charges were filed yesterday against the alleged gunman in the murder of a newspaper columnist in Ilocos Norte.

Oliver Doctor, who has yet to be arrested, was charged for allegedly killing Steve Barreiro, 52,of the Ilocos Times, in Pasuquin town last Friday.

Provincial police director Senior Superintendent Albert Ocon said Doctor was identified by Barreiro’s daughter as the one who shot her father.

Ocon said love triangle could be the motive for the killing.

Investigators recovered 14 bullet shells from a 9mm pistol at the crime scene.
