$500-M waste processing plant to rise in Bataan

Raffy Viray - The Philippine Star

BALANGA CITY, Bataan – A waste processing plant worth around $500 million will be constructed in the upland village of Daang Pare in Orion town.

Orion Mayor Antonio Raymundo Jr. told The STAR that South Korean businessmen have shown interest in putting up the garbage processing plant, which would convert household and commercial waste to pellets that can be used as fuel for a 70-megawatt power plant.

Raymundo said an 11-hectare agricultural land is being eyed as the site of the processing plant that could systematically segregate 1,000 tons of waste per day.

He said the garbage processing plant is an alternative to a more expensive sanitary landfill.

Bataan Gov. Albert Raymond Garcia led a group of local officials composed of Limay Mayor Lilver Roque, Mariveles Mayor Jessie Concepcion and Raymundo in inspecting waste processing plants in South Korea last month.
