AFP coordinating with PNP over MM bomb threats

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star
MANILA, Philippines - The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are now working closely with the Philippine National Police (PNP) regarding the series of bomb threats received by several schools in Metro Manila, a spokesman said on Friday.

Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said the military intelligence units have been in coordinating with the PNP in verifying the reports.

"The AFP intelligence units are working closely with the PNP to validate all reports that are coming out," Cabunoc said.

Cabunoc also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities, reporting suspicious activities to the government security agencies.

"We will do our best to protect the people against any threats," he added.

Earlier, the PNP said its intelligence units "are conducting an assessment of circumstances surrounding two recent incidents of alleged bomb threats on two schools in Manila and Quezon City even as security forces continue to monitor unusual activities elsewhere in Metro Manila and other key cities."

"Likewise, we are continuously validating all reports related to the recent arrest of three suspects arrested by QCPD (Quezon City Police District) while carrying a hand grenade and other items. While we are not discounting the possibility that some quarters may be exploiting the situation to create hysteria and fear, we’d rather take these threats with utmost prudence and due diligence," PNP spokesman Wilben Mayor said in a statement issued Thursday.
