Manila donates P16-M to 'Yolanda' victims

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The city government of Manila is donating P16 million to Tacloban City and two towns devastated by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in Eastern Visayas.

The Manila City Council passed a resolution authorizing Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada to donate the amount to the town of Javier and Tacloban City in Leyte; and Guiuan town in Eastern Samar.

Vice Mayor Isko Moreno said P10 million will go to Tacloban City, P5 million to Javier town and P1 million to Guiuan.

Other city governments in Metro Manila have sent help to the victims of Yolanda, the strongest typhoon to hit in the history of the Philippines and one of the strongest in the world.

More than 5,000 people have been confirmed killed and at least four million more were displaced by the super typhoon after it slammed into Eastern Visayas last November 8.
