Basilan's top drug personality nabbed

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Wednesday said its operatives have nabbed the top drug personality in Basilan province and his wife in a buy-bust operation.

 

PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. said Rakib Hamid, 47, the No. 1 target-listed drug personality in Basilan, and his 51-year-old wife Nurayyam were apprehended by authorities during a sting operation in Barangay Tabuk last January 21.

 

The couple yielded two more sachets of shabu contained inside a silver eyeglasses casing, a digital weighing scale and three P500 bills used as buy-bust money.

 

Reports said that the suspects had previous records of arrest for drug charges.

 

The Hamids are temporarily detained at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Isabela City Station detention cell pending resolution of case being filed against them, for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs) of R.A. 9165.
