Mining firm gets Supreme Court writ

MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a writ of kalikasan against the operations of a mining company in Zambales.

In a ruling promulgated last June 13 but was released only yesterday, the SC ordered the Muntinlupa-based LNL Archipelago Minerals Inc. to answer the petition of Agham party-list Rep. Angelo Palmones seeking to stop its operations in Barangay Bolitoc, Sta. Cruz, Zambales.

Palmones alleged that the mining operation has been destroying the natural barriers of Zambales from typhoons and floods.
